International Arms Industry Analysis 2002-2006From 2002 onwards, I investigated many aspects of the international industry trade: from studies of arms production, trade and acquisition, to analysis of the proliferation of specific weapon systems, such as man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS).
Much of this research culminated in publications by the Geneva-based
Small Arms Survey, which are listed in the
publications page of this website, including: my analysis of particular sectors of the arms industry; estimates of arms acquisitions by national military forces; and global studies of trends in international arms transfers.
Following the Small Arms Survey's publication of my work on
MANPADS, I served as informal advisor to the Australian and Swiss governments in preparation for United Nations General Assembly resolutions A/RES/59/90 of 3 December 2004 and A/RES/60/77 of 8 December 2006 on the 'prevention of the illicit transfer and unauthorized access to and use of man-portable air defence systems.'
My various publications on the international arms industry are widely recognized among international policy makers and I have presented their findings to numerous multilateral fora, including the European Union, NATO, the OSCE and the United Nations.
